The UV Sterilisation system provides a rapid and efficient method of disinfecting the water without the use of chemical agents. This system utilizes ultraviolet light to kill bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms in the water rapidly and reliably.
UV sterilisation systems, commonly called UV lights, emanate a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum with a wavelength of between 100 and 400 nanometres; this portion is called ultraviolet radiation. A wavelength of 256 nm in particular is characterized as being a powerful germicide and for this reason UV lights generating this wavelength are extremely useful as sterilizers in tanks used for the reproduction of discus. They reduce the level of bacteria present in the water to a minimum, which, given their sensitivity to exposure to pathogenic organisms, increases the chance of survival of the larva.
